Rice Crispie Squares...or are they?

Shea has definitely found the love of cooking and baking. She enjoys watching the cooking channel and is not afraid of using the stove. She made Rice Crispie Squares last week when Hayley was over and I have to admit that they were as good, if not better than when I make them! She is going to help Kim with the kids on Wednesdays during the summer which she is so excited about. Yesterday, she called and asked me if I would stop and buy more marshmellows on my way home from work so that she could make some treats and take them for the kids. I was busy doing something in our place when she started making them but went to check on her and found that she wasn't making squares at all. She had started to make small, bitesize, round Rice Crispie treats. At first I said, "Oh Honey...why are you doing that? Just make the squares like you did last week." But she insisted that there were no "rules" on what shape they could or couldn't be! She wanted the circles and so that was that! The funny thing about how different our minds are...I would have never even thought about making them a different shape. (I know they have Mickey Mouse shaped ones at Disneyland) I guess I am such a rule follower? No, that's not it...maybe, my mind is not as creative as hers is! Yep, because we all know how I love to break the rules!!!!

My Next Husband

Cherie cracked me up today...she's almost getting as quick as I am with the witty responses! I must be rubbing off on her! My body temp runs hot...always has. Even when I was younger and thinner, I was always hot before I was cold. Half the time at work I am whining to turn the air on and I freeze Min & Cherie out of their office. I love it cool! I said to the girls today, "My next husband better be hot" (Meaning that between Shea & I, we always have our air turned down to about 73 degrees at home) to which Cherie replied, "Well, we know he'll be hot AD- that's a given!" As Paris would say, "That's hot!"
Pet Peeves

I am the type of person that lets things go. It takes a lot to get me pissed off and I'm relatively pretty easy going. I do have a few pet peeves: 1) I hate when you are in line somewhere- at the market, bank, etc...and people in line are sighing and complaining about waiting. It really drives me nuts and on more than one occasion I have said out loud, "Yeah, all that bitching and complaining is making this line go so much faster!" 2.) It drives me bananas when people are just plain rude- whether it is a waiter/waitress, a checker at the grocery store, etc... and again I have been known to call a person on it every time. 3.) (This one is for you Cherie) I hate bad salad dressing...yes, I am picky and I admit it...bad salad dressing can ruin my whole day! 4.) My biggest pet peeve doesn't happen very often but when it does...watch out! It really burns my buns if you know what I mean! It happened this morning and I found myself really bent! I could spit when an ambulance, fire engine, police car have their sirens on and people don't pull over to the right! It's the first thing we learned in driver's ed...pull the *@^^*@&%% over! Even if they are not coming from behind and are coming from the other side of the street...pull the *@^^@&%% over!!!!! This morning this guy driving behind me just kept speeding on by and I literally honked my horn- the mean, ugly, lay on the horn, "you ass****" sounding horn! I always think that if these stupid morons knew what the inside of an ER looked like and how crucial a few seconds can make in a life threatening situation- would they be more inclined to pull their stupid cars over quickly??? Or, what if they were the ones waiting for that ambulance to pick their loved one up...or waiting for that fire engine to get to their house, then??? Ok, I feel better now that I vented my frustration. Please think of me the next time you see a siren and remember to pull over quickly! Thank you!

Money

One of my first jobs was at City National Bank. I loved being a teller, helping the customers, seeing all the famous actors & singers, rolling coin (I had to take a class on how to roll coin- this came in handy on my "date from hell" last year) and most of all...counting the money! I can still count extremely fast and accurately. Tonight as I was paying for dinner, Shea made it a point to make fun of me because I have to have all my dollar bills in order and facing the same way. Someday I'm going to let loose and mix them all up...NAAAAAAAAAAAA...never! How ever would I sleep at night???!!!$$$$$!!!
Church Sign

There is a small church that I drive by on my way to work. They have a small sign that they change quite often and I love reading all the witty sayings that they put on it. So far the one I liked best was: "The best vitamin for a Christian- B1." I thought that was so cute. Yesterday, I saw this one : "Life is like a puzzle- look to God for the missing peace." I love the way that they play on the words and spelling...quite clever if you ask me. I still think two of my all time favorites were from church summer camp in 7th grade: "Dog spelled backwards is still man's best friend." and "Love your enemies, it will drive them crazy."

Love- Noun

1) To regard with affection; to delight in. 2) To be tenderly attached 3) Warm affection; fond attachment 4) A word of endearment

We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.
W. Somerset Margham

If you press me to say why I loved him, I can say no more than because he was he and I was I.
Michel de Montaigne

Where there is great love, there are always wishes.
Willa Cather

You cannot be lonely if you like the person you're alone with.
Wayne Dyer

I like not only to be loved, but to be told I am loved.
George Eliot

Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.
Robert Frost

For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.

"Hello Dolly" & Mary

Shea & I went to see "Hello Dolly" with Hayley, Min & Cherie and some other friends on Saturday night. I had never seen the movie (I know- I need to rent some of those oldies) so I couldn't tell Shea & Hayley much about it- other than singing the few lines from the old, familiar song. It was such a cute play and luckily, the girls loved it as well. My favorite part of it was not the actual play but the sweet, older woman that I sat next to. Her name is Mary and she was truly the "Dolly" of the night. Working as a nurse for so many years, I have come to realize that there are two types of "geriatric" patients- those that are grumpy & are just waiting to die and those that are so joy filled & bursting with love! Mary was such a blessing to sit next to and such a joy! She had such a sweet spirit as she told me that when her nephew came in that he had a bee in his hair. When he flicked it off his head, it landed on her and the bee stung her! She had the little bee stinger in her program. (I still have the bee stinger in Shea's baby book from when she got stung!) I explained that I was a nurse and just took a peak at it to make sure she was not allergic, etc... and I told her how to care for it when she got home. I used to keep a bit of baking soda in my purse for just those kind of emergencies but decided against it with how many drugs are in this world. That would be the last thing I would need is to be stopped and have the police officer think I had "coke" in my purse! (You make a paste with water & baking soda for bee stings, spider bites, etc...and it draws the poison out) Anyway, Mary & I became special friends. She told me that I had a very special personality and that she thought I was very unique! I gave her my business card with my phone number and told her to call me. I want to take Mary to lunch. She was so excited that you would have thought I gave her a winning lottery ticket! There is something to be said for older people who are still so full of joy and who love life! I feel like we can all learn something from them and their positive attitudes!

Life is what we make it; always has been, always will be.
Grandma Moses

It is not length of life, but depth of life.

My Chapel

Last Friday, I did my final chapel of the school year. I had decided to do it even though Shea was at Science Camp and would not be there to hear it. I figure she hears me blab all the time...so it was fair to share my gift of gab with all the other kids! We have such great kids at school and it is such a joy to see them grow and become such sweet people. I spoke to them about "worth & value" and asked them right off if they were at a garage sale, what would there price be if they were for sale? It's so cute to hear the different comments but my whole lesson to them was to understand that what something costs does not determine what its worth or value is. I took all my favorite things in...cotton candy, a favorite photo in a frame of Shea & I, Louis Vuitton purse, maraschino cherries, my favorite perfume (Dolce & Gabana), a bunch of daisies, and Shea's lavender blanket that I just finished. I also spoke about my Nana and shared a small blanket that she had crocheted before she passed away. It was made of all her left over scrap pieces of yarn- it's still beautiful! I also took in a baby sweater that she made for me when I was a baby girl. I told of the Harley-Davidson story (ask me and I will share it with you- it's really cool!) which the kids just loved. I was a bit worried to "lose" some of them but they were all so interested and were so good the whole time I spoke! At the end, I explained to them about the gift of Jesus dying on the cross for us and that God would have had Jesus do it for just one of us. That's how much God loves us and that's how much we are worth to Him. I also pointed out that there was no amount of money that could "pay" for them- that they are worth far more than any amount of money in the world! I gave each student a sticker that I made up and told them that it could be their "price tag" if they were at a garage sale. It had a little lamb on it and it read:

1st Corinthians 6:20
For you were bought at a price;
therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Oringinally, I wasn't going to write about my chapel but last night I went to dinner with some friends and Cathy (our computer teacher and Shea's Kindergarten teacher) mentioned that one of the students came up to her and said that my chapel was so great! She also said that the kids were talking amongst themselves and saying that they all love when "Miss Adrienne" does chapel- that it's so much fun and they learn so much! Geez- What do you know about that? I guess it really is true that God works in mysterious ways!
